A Short Time - On Being a Foster Mom

Even though he was only with us for a short time, our little Simon will forever be a part of our family. I never really gave the whole story about Simon, so I thought I'd share it with you. As you guys know, I work at a vet's office. My office manager bought Simon off of PetFinder for her friend in Michigan. Simon was rescued from a hoarder home, and then was also mistreated by the woman who was selling him. I came into work one day, and little Simon was sitting next to my desk. My office manager explained that he was going to her friend in Michigan, but he needed to be housetrained first. Me, being puppy crazy like I am, offered to take him in and train him. So that night, Simon came home with me. The first thing he did was "mark" every chair leg in my house. But the next day, he only had one accident, and he learned very quickly what he was supposed to do. He really meshed into our family so well. In no time at all, he was doing tricks, snuggling up with us, and scooting his way into our hearts. It's crazy how much a little dog can become a part of your family in such a short time. But the time came too quickly for Simon to head up to Michigan to his forever home. I packed him a bag of his favorite toys, some treats, and his food. And I wrote a letter to his new owner. By the time I finished writing that letter, I was a bawling mess. I cried myself to sleep that night, knowing that I had to give him up. The next morning, I got up and got ready for work, and Simon and I headed off. But by the time I got to work (a 3 minute drive), I was a mess again. I was crying so hard, my manager told me I could just go home for the day. I was just completely devastated that Simon wouldn't be our dog anymore. So I left Simon at the vet's office, and went home. I just laid in my bed for most of that day, crying. I still miss my little buddy so much, but I know he's having a great time at his new home, and has already adjusted very well. He'll always hold a special place in my heart.
